Windows 8 File History Release

Like many we were initially concerned with Windows 8, fearing another Vista episode. That said the latest builds seem to have definitely ironed out the bugs and glitches, and enhanced the over all usability. File history, a built in auto backup tool, seems like a great feature. however by default it is turned off, and we wonder how many users would actually be aware of how to use and set this up. Additionally we have still found issues with Windows 7 backup tool failing with event log messages offering very little help i how to resolve the issues. Hopefully File History will be more bug resistant.

Windows 8 is slated for October release in US and if you are currently, or are planning, to get a pre release copy, you can upgrade to a full licensed release for just US$40, hopefully also available in OZ. It is also looking likely that any previous version of Windows, even XP, will be able to receive and upgrade license for the $40 price tag. This is more in line with Apple’s releases which are typically around the $40 range.

With the new version of Office also coming, and people generally not liking change, we wonder if people are willing to spend the time to learn the new Windows and Office or will this push more people to Mac.
